Clitheroe itself is situated in Lancashire, on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, and is well signposted from the A59. A popular base for tourists visiting the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Forest of Bowland.
![]() To the north is Skipton, known as the gateway to the Dales, there is a traditional street market and it's well worth finding the small shop selling pork pies (it's down by the canal near the church - look for the queues). In the opposite direction on the A59, lies Preston, a pleasant enough town with some major stores and a small 'mall' development. It's the nearest place with a main line station and boasts the first stretch of motor way in the country, as well as the Preston Guild - every twenty years. Other places easily accessible are Burnley, Blackburn and Accrington.
One claim to fame for the area is Pendle Hill, and of course the Pendle witches who came from the surrounding area.

![]() ![]() L.S. Lowry - Street in Clitheroe. A little artistic license used for this great example of his work, to see much more of the work of L.S.Lowry, why not visit the Lowry Centre at Salford, for a great day out.
![]() There seems to be some debate about the location of the Lowry painting, some suggest Moor Lane (the photo on the left), others claim it is the Library building on the right. I favour Moor Lane, but will leave you to make up your own mind.
![]() Could it be anywhere else but Clitheroe?
